Following his debut show at Zonamaco and 2025 Trellis Art Fund Stepping Stone recipient multidisciplinary artist José Villalobos and Senior Curator Alana Hernandez delve into the themes and inspirations behind his first U.S. solo museum presentation "Rough Rider". The artworks currently on display at the ASU Art Museum “focus on the spectacle rodeo culture, addressing themes related to machismo, protection, and gender." Together, Villalobos and Hernandez explore the intersection of personal narrative and cultural commentary, discussing Villalobos's creative process.
