How I Became an Artista returns with its newest community-based Art LAB. In partnership with CHISPA AZ, join us at El Oso Park on Saturday, April 23 from 11:30 AM–1:30 PM for an Earth Day Celebration and to explore the process of papermaking. Community members will learn about the art historical legacies of hand-made paper and its uses, such as Amate paper used in Pre-colonial Aztec Codices or in contemporary practices by artists like Enrique Chagoya. Participants will learn about how paper is made, including preparing plant fibers or recycled materials, making pulp, and forming sheets. In addition, participants will learn about making chops, a small seal, stamp, or impression that identifies the artist and serves as a signature for each piece of paper. Participants are encouraged to bring a personal item with them to the workshop for paper impressions
This program is free with registration and is offered at a limited capacity.
